Course Details
Lesson 1-1: Let's build a robotic arm that can rotate 180 degrees, lift up and down, and open and close its claw to pick up, move, and stack the four colored rings. The programs we will code solve the classic Towers of Hanoi puzzle, which involves moving a stack of rings from one pole to another, with one spare temporary pole to use.
Lesson 1-2: Maybe you remember a great helicopter toy called VertiBird that lifted off and flew in a circle around a base. The toy lifted itself with real propeller thrust and also tilted forwards and backwards, all with a single motor. Our robotic model was inspired by it, lifting and thrust will be done with additional motors and a program.
Lesson 2-1: We will design and code a balance board with a skater on top. Two wheels only! Normally, the board is unstable and falls on one of the wheels. But our students can code a program that can balance it automatically for a couple of hours or even more..
Lesson 2-2: This little robot drives around carrying a big heavy hammer. You can drive it by remote control and then hit the strike button on the remote to deliver a solid whack to whatever is in front of it!
Lesson 3-1: We have built a helicopter and now can make an airplane. The new model airplane is mounted on a stand that can control its roll, pitch, and yaw angles independently, or all at the same time, all while its propeller is spinning. Fly the airplane with the remote-control program and design the autonomous one. The plane will maneuver on its own.
Lesson 3-2: This robotic arm uses three motors in its "shoulder" and one more in its "elbow" synchronized together to deliver a good whack to the red ball and send it rolling across the room. Maybe there is a way to throw the ball further? Yes, but these are our students who should find it.
Lesson 4-1: The T-Rex robot dinosaur walks on two feet, opens and closes its mouth to roar, and waves its tail back and forth! You can control the T-Rex with either of two remote control programs and code a new one to make your own sequence
Lesson 4-2: Our campers will build a robotic hand that can mimic the movement of your hand. We will build a 2-axis controller that can fit a human hand and a LEGO hand next to it. We need to create a mirror program: when our hand moves, robotic hand repeats.
Lesson 5: Meet Strummy, the electric guitar we will build! To start playing, all you need to do is to select your instrument by turning the left motor, then once you strum, you can change the note by moving the plate up and down the guitar neck. What’s more? Well just turn the right motor to select a drum beat, then tap the guitar to drum it! Strummy is one full band! Strummy doesn't just make music, but also makes endless amounts of fun!!
